COOPA Sessions: July 2009

Welcome to another month of great dance sessions! I've had a lot fun putting together this months collection of great electro and progressive house, with this months intro featuring dutch artist Laidback Luke. This months session is a wider look into the newly released progressive house, as of last month I mainly stuck with the quick changes of electro house. This is a more progressive mix, with some fabulous new releases from some fabulous artists!

Proxi - 10inONE Episode 1

Adding to my monthly shows Trancing It Up and Bedtime Stories (with Darran Bartley), I've begun a new venture called 10inONE.

This new series of mixes will consist of 3 features throughout! Ten tracks, in one hour, with no tracklisting. Something I’ve been wanting to do for some time now is kill the listing of the tracks in every mix I play, as the element of the surprise or unknown is personally what makes grabbing and drifting away to a mix more worthwhile and liberating.

No schedule for it at the moment. I do it when I’m in the mood.

Void Radio: Every Monday

Void Radio is a weekly show on popular internet radio station Brap.FM (www.brap.fm). The show runs every Monday from 2000HRS-2200HRS GMT and features a range of DJ talent from the South Coast of England. The station is big on its DJs bringing some personality to their shows so you'll never simply find 2 hours of straight up boring mixing, all DJs are required to talk and all Void Radio DJs can be found in the chat room on the website. Some of them even post real time track IDs to Twitter! Ahh SDM how we love you so. SDM AKA Stuart Mullen has been spinning tunes and talking music for some time now in this little shanty town. Udy remixes 2 new tracks

First up is a remix for Techment overlord Vortechtral. You may have caught him in his Vortech breaks guise at the last KMB but this track is a remix of his tribal dance floor techno original. Vortechtral is a big name on the international techno scene with fans all over the world and indeed close to home with a glowing review from Mark EG. This Udy remix attempts to take Vortechtral's world and KMB's world and mix it into a full on bassline tech fest.

The next track is a remix for Portsmouth legends Seatman Separator. The original is from their Mercury Trax 3 EP which can be purchased here. More of a re-version of a rock tinged atmospheric original, the idea was to create an electro version with enough groove to make a few bodies sway.

Udy Feat. MC Whipcrack - Fat Loan OUT NOW on Nitrous Records

In these uncertain times it's good to know that a small band of renegades are campaigning for the only thing that can pull us through: a Fat Loan of course! MC Whipcrack delivers a fine yarn about financial incapability and general negativity over 3 mixes from some truly exciting names rising in the breaks/electro/bassline scene.

Udy's original mix is a slow building surging monster with a heavy influence of electro techno backing up the catchy vocals. By halfway in you're stomping without even realising it and by the end you may finding yourself locked in the groove whilst still pulling that funny face that is appropriate for all big lead lines.

II Tone's II Broke Remix takes the sound and makes it NOW with a crazy mash up of breaks and almost fidget style style house. The bassline that drops is just plain cheeky and has already seen dancefloors reverting to straight up groove mode. This boy is real upcoming talent with plenty of highly popular tracks under his belt so we're stoked to have him stamp his signature all over Fat Loan.

Bujuben takes some straight up breakbeats and adds a dose of metal to the proceedings. Still focussing on the vocal hook but conjuring up a lead of his own it brings wailing siren like sounds and a certain epic edge to proceedings.

Mongolian Mixtape Marathon

Calling all DJs! Fancy having your mix heard somewhere between here and Mongolia?

Mongolian Mixtape Marathon is a project involving two drivers driving from London to Mongolia to raise money for Save The Children. As they will have over 800 hours of driving time they are looking for DJs to submit a mix along with a minimum donation of 1 pound. The mixes will also be podcasted and uploaded to the website for one year.
